#9 Topics in Food

Image
I found this image pretty interesting. It's quite a simple sign yet it really incapsulates a much larger issue. The term "supersizing poverty" on one hand can be a play on words regarding fast food slang in advertising and menu items, while referring to a sense of corporate greed when it comes to large companies underpaying workers. I feel as if the sign can also be highlighting the issue of companies cheaping out on making their food so it can be cheaper on both ends, ultimately leading to unhealthy food and an almost dangerous level of convenience to those who may only be able to afford fast food.

#8 H.

 H. I wanted to take a second today and write about a song that's been on my mind for a while now and how it resonates with me, that song being "H." by TOOL. I'm sure it's shocking that I'm yet again writing about music here, but bear with me while I over analyze this song like any other stereotypical TOOL fan. I've easily listened to this song hundreds of times, yet as of recently it's been hitting me a lot harder emotionally. The beauty of it is that the song can really have a different meaning depending on the listener, and I've definitely gotten something different out of it on numerous occasions. however recently, I've been contemplating a lot on my relationships, more specifically relationships with my friends. Friends that I care very much about, yet our negative habits and traits only amplify when together, holding us all back in a lot of areas. A few lines from the song that stick out to me, and that I can relate to the feelings I'...

#7 Fresh

Fresh What is the purpose of this film? The purpose of this film is to further peoples consciousness when it comes to what's put into their food. Does this film matter? Why/why not? I believe it absolutely does matter. Whether viewers want to change anything regarding what they eat or not, the film still gives important insight and can help viewers make small subconscious decisions to better their diets, or at least look into what they're eating. Is it simply easier and better for we Americans not to know about issues regarding the food we eat? It's definitely easier for us as Americans to ignore the issues regarding our food, however it is far from better. Food is quite literally a necessity to keep living, as it's our bodies fuel. Ignoring what we eat and continuing to put so much processed and unhealthy foods in our bodies, is not a great way to ensure a healthy life. Should we even bother caring? Why or why not? In my opinion, absol...

#5 Concerts

Image
Concerts, More Than Just Music We all have that one song that really hits home, maybe it's in a happy way, or maybe it's in a not so happy way. Either way, imagine that song being played live in front of you and 22,000 other people all singing along to the words. It's a surreal experience to say the least. Concerts turn those songs into something so much more than just instrumentals and lyrics. I've been going to concerts pretty consistently for the past few years and I cannot say there's one that I didn't enjoy. Whether I'm will just one other person or a whole group I always end up having a great time. I recently attended "Grey Day" where I watched some of my favorite artists perform some of my favorite songs of all time. Listening to everyone around me singing along gave this feeling of unity, we're all such different people bonding over the music, It's a really neat feeling that I think everyone should experience at least once in their ...

#4 Mayhem

Image
Mayhem https://youtu.be/dHXL8A1dowo The commercial is meant to be a lighthearted and comedic skit to advertise Allstates Home Insurance. The ad is most likely targeting homeowners with messy pets, as the actor is pretending to be a cat and makes a mess of the house (like all cats do). Most of the audience would be able to relate to this ad one way or another as most of us have had pets before, and I'm sure most of them have made messes before. This helps connect to viewers on a more personal level, leading them to be more open and intrigued about the product. This ad could also attract people who are new homeowners or on the fence about getting a pet, as it may not have crossed someone's mind, the kind of damages a pet can cause, and I'm sure it's relieving knowing you can have insurance that covers such damages. Overall, the ad does a great job at connecting with its audience on a personal level while keeping them engaged with comedic value, while simultaneously promo...

#3 Enjoying Your Job

Image
Enjoying Your Job Do you ever wake up dreading going to work? Or perhaps worry about going to work the next day? I'm sure all of us get that feeling sometimes. Whether you have a full-time career that you love, or you're like me with a part time job, there's bound to be things that you dislike about work. Most of the time it has nothing to do with being a lazy, it can be the environment, coworkers, management, or it simply might not be the kind of work you want to be doing. I've personally dealt with issues in just about every one of those areas, here's a couple of things I've found help me get through my shifts. One of the main issues I find with my job is boredom, who would've thought. The first big thing I use to combat this is listening to music, my job doesn't allow earbuds or anything, luckily my hair is long enough to hide it. This may not be an option for those with more professional or skilled positions. However, for those who can, it's a g...

#2 The Good and Bad of Nostalgia

Nostalgia      We've all heard songs, seen pictures, or reconnected with people that take us back to an earlier, sometimes happier point in our lives. One of my personal examples would be the song "Journey to the End of the East Bay" by Rancid, it always brings me back to the earlier High School days when me and my buddies couldn't decide how many punk bands we wanted to start. Nostalgia is a really great thing, until it isn't. If you're anything like me, you may spend a lot of time looking through old photos reminiscing on fun times you've had in the past. It's nice to look back every once in a while, but getting caught up in the past too often can definitely create its own set of problems.  One of the biggest problems I've faced while always looking back at the past, is worsened depression. I'll constantly catch myself thinking about my old friends and all the memories we made, missing those memories almost always ends up screwing with my moo...
